The Lake County Health Department has taken more samples from Long Lake and found high concentrations of blue green algae in some areas. Due to changing wind conditions, the specific location of high concentrations is impossible to predict on a day to day basis. The Health Department's suggestion to AVOID CONTACT with the algae blooms still stands.
As a reminder, blue green algae has a thick, neon blue, paint-like appearance (see image).
The Health Department has received a report of one individual developing a rash after swimming. Blue green algae can cause such rashes. The Health Department wants to know about anyone becoming ill or developing a rash, so please report any such occurrences.
